BOSTON, February 20, 2007— Standish Mellon Asset Management (SMAM) today announced that Alexander Kozhemiakin has joined the firm as director of emerging market strategies.  Kozhemiakin will have oversight responsibility for Standish Mellon’s emerging market (EM) debt investment and research team and serve as co-portfolio manager with John Peta on the firm’s EM debt portfolios.  He reports to David Leduc, SMAM director of global fixed income.

Kozhemiakin comes to Standish Mellon from Putnam Investments in Boston, where he served as senior vice president and emerging markets portfolio manager.  Before that he was an emerging markets sovereign analyst at Aeltus Investment Management in Hartford and at Citibank in New York. 

“As the emerging market strategy assumes greater importance in Standish Mellon’s growth plans, we felt it necessary to bring additional leadership and product development expertise to the team,” said Leduc.  “Alex’s deep experience in EM debt and related assets will help strengthen our existing products and create new strategies.  We’re excited to have a person of his caliber and skill to lead our growth in this asset class and to deliver innovative solutions to our clients.”

Kozhemiakin received an Honors Diploma from Moscow State Institute for International Relations, a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Illinois, and was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard University.  Kozhemiakin’s research on emerging markets and other fixed income topics has been published in the Journal of Fixed Income and the Journal of Investing, and he has a forthcoming article in the Journal of Portfolio Management.  He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
