Standish's geographical diversity is the legacy of our predecessor firms, who share a history of fixed income innovation and devotion to meeting the requirements of sophisticated investors.
· Boston in 1933 saw the establishment of Standish, Ayer & Wood, which was one of the first money managers to focus exclusively on the needs of sophisticated investors. Standish grew as a leading institutional manager, offering both domestic and international strategies to a global clientele. In 2001, the firm joined the Mellon organization as Standish Mellon.
· Pittsburgh was the home of Mellon Bond Associates, founded in 1986. The firm pioneered the development of bond index funds, cash-matched portfolios and enhanced short term investment products. It became a leader in applying quantitative methods to fixed income portfolios. The firm originally grew out of Mellon’s trust and investment department, which began managing fixed income strategies in 1947.
· San Francisco was the home of Certus Asset Advisors, founded in 1983. Certus was one of the first investment managers to specialize in guaranteed investment contracts. The three firms were united as Standish Mellon Asset Management Company LLC in July 2003.
